MANILA -- The live-action "Aladdin" movie got off to a magical start in the Philippines, with an impressive P212-million haul over its first six days, Disney announced this Wednesday.
And while it's no record, the figure, which made it the number one movie over the weekend, is reflective of the title's enduring popularity with Filipinos -- it is a local favorite partly because the 1992 animated original featured the singing voice of Lea Salonga.
In fact, a cover of its theme song, "A Whole New World," by Darren Espanto and Morissette Amon, went viral among Pinoys on YouTube, days after it premiered last May 22.
The live-action adaptation stars Mena Massoud and Naomi Scott, with Will Smith as the Genie. Here's our review of it.
