MANILA — Manila Mayor Isko Moreno on Wednesday publicly thanked the "KathNiel" fandom, or fans of onscreen and real-life couple Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla, for their organized efforts of bringing relief to some residents of the Philippine capital.
According to the Manila Public Information Office, the group and a certain Alvin Mendoza donated 400 food packs to the local government.
The city's social welfare department distributed the packs to street dwellers who are being sheltered at the Fugoso Sports Complez amid the coronavirus lockdown.
On Twitter, Moreno shared photos of the distribution of the goods, writing, "Thank you KathNiel fandom!"
The fandom's donation drive coincided with the eight anniversary of Bernardo and Padilla's relationship, but even prior, they have long carried out organized movements in line with their idol's advocacies.
Recently, the group made headlines when they led the #ReportBlockMute campaign on social media, targeting trolls amid the controversy surrounding the government closure of ABS-CBN, Bernardo and Padilla's home network.
