MANILA – Angel Locsin cried foul over the “lies and black propaganda” allegedly disseminated by the Philippine National Police (PNP) against senatorial aspirant Neri Colmenares.

On Twitter, Locsin reposted a video showing cops in uniform distributing PNP’s official newsletter which supposedly “red-tags” Colmenares, among others.

Locsin said she could not believe how some people would go out of their way just to besmirch another person’s reputation.

“Bakit grabe 'yung effort pra makasira? Wala bang maibato kay @ColmenaresPH kaya kinakalat na komunista o NPA sya? Dahil ba gumagawa sya ng paraan para sa kapakanan ng ordinaryong tao at hindi sa ikabubuti ng mga mapagsamantalang tao? Mag-isip sana tayo,” she wrote.

Locsin explained she is not coercing anyone to vote for Colmenares.

“If you don't believe in him, don't vote for him. Spreading lies and destroying the reputation of someone with pure intentions is what I don't agree with,” she said.

Locsin, whose real name is Angelica Locsin Colmenares, is Colmenares' aunt.

During the campaign, the actress has been vocal in supporting the lawmaker's senatorial bid, saying she believes in her relative's integrity and capability to serve the Filipino people.

With 94.67 percent of election returns (partial and unofficial) already tallied as of 12:26 p.m., Colmenares is in the 24th spot with 4,553,242 votes.

Only 12 candidates will get a seat in the Senate for the next Congress.
