MANILA -- Teleserye viewers noticed shades of Christian Grey in JM de Guzman's character on ABS-CBN's afternoon drama "Araw Gabi," which premiered on Monday.
Just like the dashing Grey, de Guzman's character Adrian Olvidar is also a top executive of a huge company. He wears a tuxedo, drives a sports car, and knows how to fly a plane. He is mysterious, a man of few words and with a deep, long gaze.
Of course, Christian Grey isn't complete without his Anastasia Steele. For "Araw Gabi," de Guzman is paired with Barbie Imperial who plays Mich, a young creative in a small ad agency that handles the marketing campaigns of Adrian's business, Tranquila Resort.
"Araw Gabi," the TV adaptation of the hit Precious Hearts Romances book, marks the first team up of Imperial and de Guzman, who is making his TV comeback after a long hiatus.
In recent interviews, the two were careful not to spill any spoilers but one thing is sure -- there will be lots of kissing scenes.
The first few encounters between Adrian and Mich during the pilot episode were full of tension. Netizens tweeted about an elevator scene, in which, due to overcrowding, Mich was pushed back toward Adrian, and she accidentally bumped into his crotch.
"Bastos ka!" Mich shrieked. But the indifferent Adrian just replied: "Nananahimik 'yan. Tulog na tulog pa 'yan."
The tension between Mich and Adrian continued in their next encounters, particularly when she finally found out that Adrian is the big boss their agency is trying to woo.
Things will get get more interesting in the upcoming episodes. Based on the teaser, Adrian will be busy flying his private planes and firing "incompetent" people from his company. Mich, on the other hand, will have to find ways to pay her parents' debts.
Directed by Theodore Boborol, "Araw Gabi" airs weekday afternoons after "Asintado."
