MANILA -- Iza Calzado is hoping that the costume of the Filipino superhero Darna will be changed in Star Cinema's upcoming big-screen adaptation.
In an interview on ANC's "Headstart" on Friday, the actress noted how the costumes of other iconic superheroes such as Wonder Woman and Captain Marvel have evolved to become less revealing.
"Palitan na kasi 'yung costume, hindi ba? Kailangan ba talagang naka-bikini si Darna? Si Wonder Woman nga naka-one piece, Gal Gadot na 'yon. Captain Marvel's in a full suit," she said.
Calzado was quick to add that she is not interested in the role: "Not that I want it, but you know it's something that could possibly widen the choices because not everybody will be comfortable [wearing that costume]."
"It's hard to hit that perfect Darna body that they want. In my opinion kasi, it's hard to fight justice in a bikini. Kasi there's a lot of injustice that could happen, hindi ba?"
Calzado was the original choice to portray Darna in a TV series back in 2005, but the role eventually went to Angel Locsin.
Rex Ravelo, son of the late Darna creator Mars Ravelo, previously revealed that the Filipino superhero will have a more conservative costume in the upcoming remake.
