MANILA — With the surrender of Vendetta to authorities, its leader Cardo (Coco Martin) is now behind bars — a fate similar to that of another popular Primetime Bida lead character, Jade Bartolome (Yam Concepcion).
The April 1 episode of “FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano” saw the capture of Cardo’s group, which had achieved its ultimate mission of taking down the criminal regime of President Cabrera (Edu Manzano).
To prevent further bloodshed, and upon the convincing of the rightful president, Oscar Hidalgo (Rowell Santiago), and Flora (Susan Roces), Cardo and his group faced their arrest for murder and rebellion.
Hidalgo, who is set to reclaim his position after being long thought dead, vowed to clear the name of Vendetta, and right the wrongs Cabrera had caused within the government.
The arrest of Cardo came just a week after the incarceration of Jade in “Halik,” similarly an undisputed top-rater on television. In the series, Jade was charged with adultery over her affair with Ace (Sam Milby).
Concepcion, who considers her hated portrayal as the unfaithful wife her biggest break, appears to have noticed the parallels between her character and Martin’s.
In her Instagram Stories, she even shared a comparison shot of their onscreen mugshots with a playful caption.
“Paano ba ‘yan Fernan, kitakits sa kulungan?” she wrote, tagging the account of Martin.
Concepcion was referring to the alias Cardo used for a time as part of the rebel group Pulang Araw in “Ang Probinsyano.” That story arc included Concepcion as Lena, Fernan’s love interest, until she was killed in a gunfight.
