MANILA – “At the end of the day, ang iisipin mo 'yung kaligayahan ng anak mo, hindi 'yung kaligayahan mo.”
These were the words of Carol Santos, the mother of actress Judy Ann Santos, when she was interviewed by Noel Ferrer for Teleradyo Inquirer last Saturday.
In a clip shared by Ferrer on Instagram, Mrs. Santos said parents should always wish their children the best in life.
“And matuwa ka kung nandiyan ka pa, nakita mo nang masaya 'yung anak mo. Dapat talaga may suporta ka sa anak mo,” she said.
Mrs. Santos added parents should also be supportive of their children when they choose a better half.
“Kahit ayaw mo 'yung mapapangasawa ng anak mo, the mere fact na gusto ng anak mo 'yun, wala kang magagawa. Kasi ikaw ba ang pakikisamahan ng mapapangasawa?” she said.
“Pabayaan mo 'yung anak mo kasi siya naman ang makikisama. Sila ang magiging maligaya. At the end of the day, kung magkagulo-gulo or what, anak mo ang masisisi, hindi ikaw,” she added.
Mrs. Santos’ interview came on the heels of the controversy involving Sarah Geronimo’s mother Divine, who supposedly gatecrashed a private dinner following her daughter’s wedding to Matteo Guidicelli.
Geronimo and Guidicelli exchanged vows in a clandestine ceremony on Thursday which was supposedly kept even from the bride’s parents who have long been cold toward the relationship.
Following a leak that resulted in a preemptive report from columnist Ricky Lo, it appears Mrs. Geronimo caught wind of the event and showed up uninvited.
A bodyguard employed by the Geronimo family, Jerry Tamara, reported to the police that Guidicelli accused him of informing the singer’s mother, supposedly leading to an altercation.
In a separate interview, Tamara narrated his account of the scuffle that happened on the night the celebrity couple tied the knot.
Guidicelli has already denied this accusation while Geronimo refuses to comment on the matter.
