MANILA — Just four months before her controversial wedding with Matteo Guidicelli, a tearful Sarah Geronimo assured her parents, Divine and Delfin, of her unchanging love “no matter who comes into my life.”
Geronimo, 31, could not contain her tears as she was asked to share her promise to her father, who joined her in a televised interview on “Magandang Buhay” in October 2019.
“Sa Daddy ko, sa buong family ko, sa Mama ko, know that I will forever be grateful,” she said.
“Kahit sino, kahit anong dumating sa buhay ko, hindi magbabago ‘yung pagmamahal at pag-respeto ko sa mga magulang ko, sa mga kapatid ko. Dahil pamilya ko sila, e. Number one: family,” Geronimo added.
Geronimo is the third of four siblings, and is the only one among them who is in the limelight. Her parents have time and again credited Geronimo’s dedication and music career for helping provide a comfortable life for her family.
Prior to Geronimo’s emotional message, Delfin was also asked to give his advice to his daughter.
“Kailangan maging matatag tayo,” he said, after sharing that any family grapples with problems. “Kaming mga magulang, gusto namin na lahat ng mga anak namin, mapunta sa magagandang buhay na patutunguhan.”
“Naging anak rin tayo, naging magulang tayo. Siya rin, magiging magulang, magkakaroon din siya ng mga anak sa magiging pamilya niya. Hindi puwedeng ipagpalit ang pamilya basta-basta,” he told his daughter.
Delfin’s mention of Geronimo having her own family notably excluded a reference to Guidicelli, who, as recently as November 2019, was still asking his now-wife’s parents for their blessing and acceptance.
The apparent rift between Geronimo’s parents and Guidicelli has yet to heal still, going by reports of the couple’s clandestine wedding ceremony that was marred by an altercation.
The February 20 nuptials was supposedly kept secret even from Geronimo’s parents, amid continued speculation that they disapprove of Guidicelli.
Following a leak that resulted in a preemptive report from columnist Ricky Lo, it appears Geronimo’s mother, Divine, caught wind of the event and showed up uninvited.
Accused of informing Divine about the couple’s whereabouts was a bodyguard employed by the Geronimo family, who reported to police that he figured in a brawl with Gudicelli after the wedding. At that point, according to the blotter, Divine had just arrived and insisted on speaking with her daughter.
