MANILA — Angel Locsin on Friday addressed accusations after she expressed support for ABS-CBN's franchise renewal.
On Instagram, Locsin responded, point by point, to a number of allegations “that were thrown at me for speaking up for what is right.”
“Just to clear things up,” she said, “I am not part of any political party, not representing any politician.”
Locsin, a Kapamilya star since 2007, also pointed out that she currently has no existing contract with ABS-CBN, so “the company has no control on whatever I want to post.”
In the last two weeks, Locsin has been sharing her sentiments on the attempts to block ABS-CBN’s franchise renewal. Notably, in a post that made headlines, Locsin shared photos of employees she has worked with behind the scenes — humanizing the oft-mentioned 11,000 figure of jobs at risk.
Locsin, in her post on Friday, then shared a screenshot of a Facebook post from actress Vivian Velez, a known avid supporter of the Duterte administration, which shows a list of ABS-CBN stockholders.
Among them is Locsin, listed as Angelica Colmenares, her real name.
“Sorry to disappoint some people, but money is not everything. Hindi ko ho alam kung anong intention ni Ms. Vivian sa kanyang post, pero kung ito po ang gagamitin to discredit my name and what I stand for, hindi nyo po kailangang gawing issue,” she said.
Locsin, who was hailed in 2019 as one of Forbes’ Heroes of Philanthropy, added: “Kapag kumita po ang aking maliit na investment sa ABS-CBN, I will donate everything to charity. Accounted.”
“Again, money is not everything,” emphasized.
Locsin went on to explain that the stocks named under her is “a privilege offer of the company to some of their employees in installment plan.”
“Mine is payable for 5 years. Wala pa po sa half ang nabayad ko kaya sa understanding ko, hindi ko pa po pagmamay-ari ang stocks na ‘yun,” she said.
Addressing her followers and detractors alike, Locsin ended: “Nirerespeto ko ho ang opinyon ng lahat. Alam ko na magkakaiba man ng paraan, lahat naman tayo prayoridad ang kapakanan ng mga manggagawa. ‘Yun naman po ang importante.”
