Several seconds of silence were observed on 'It's Showtime' amid news of the passing of comedian Bentong.

The show was in the middle of its "Tawag ng Tanghalan" segment when Amy Perez went up on stage and shared the news that Bentong --real name Domingo Vusotros Brotamante Jr.-- has died.

A prayer was also offered, wherein the hosts described Bentong as a "close friend" and a "kapamilya."

Bentong passed away early Saturday after being brought to the hospital due to breathing difficulties. The comic, who was said to have had diabetes, later on succumbed to a heart attack.

Tributes for him were quick to reach social media, with the likes of Kiray Celis and Sherilyn Reyes offering their prayers.

Celis wrote: "Rest in peace Kuya Bentong."

Reyes was emotional in her note, saying: "Kuya Boyet, nalungkot ako bigla. 'Di ko alam, nagpaalam ka na. Hindii ko makakalimutan tuwing nagkikita tayo, tawag mo sa akin, Sherilyn Brotamante. Salamat Kuya! Hindi ako magiging artista kung 'di mo ako nakita at itinuro kina Mr. M at Tita Mariolle. Rest In Peace, Kuya Boyet!"
