MANILA – He cannot do it in person, or even over the phone.

So Boy Abunda apologized to Kim Chiu through her boyfriend, Xian Lim, who appeared on his evening show on Wednesday.

“Can I just confess something before we continue?” he told the studio audience and viewers of “Tonight with Boy Abunda.” “I felt guilty, mga kapamilya, mga kaibigan. I really felt guilty.”

“I should not have asked Kim.”

It was last November when Chiu appeared on Abunda’s show and was persuaded to admit the real score between her and Lim.

“Oo naman. Yes. Oo, oo,” said the actress, who was visibly uncomfortable.

Looking back, Abunda said he felt bad after the interview, adding that he should have asked Lim first instead.

He told Lim: “Alam mo after the interview, I felt so bad because in a way, I have a different relationship with you. I can dial your number, I can call. With Kimmy, I’m very careful. She’s so fragile to me. But had it been you, I would have called and I would have said, ‘sorry, hindi ko dapat itinanong ‘yun.’”

Abunda went on to address Chiu: “She’s hearing this for the first time, maybe. Kimmy, sorry.”

Lim, for his part, explained why it took him and Chiu a long time to admit their relationship, saying they wanted to end their love team first.

“‘Bakit kayo umaamin ngayon?’ It’s because ayaw pa naming umamin while magkatrabaho kami,” he said. “Parang I don’t want people thinking na parang, ‘kasi gusto lang nilang i-promote ‘yung teamup nila, that’s why they’re together.’”

“But years later, we’re still together,” he happily said. “We’re not promoting anything. We’re not promoting ourselves.”

When asked what they like doing when they’re together, Lim replied: “What we enjoy the most is long drives… either me driving, or [Kim]. She also loves driving, and just talking habang nagmamaneho.”
