The year is almost over and during this time I do my reflection to look back at how my life was. As much as I want to make my life perfect, it is just not possible, and so I admit my flaws and shortcomings which sometimes I fail to see.

I am in awe at the great joy of being able to be an instrument for so many people who have made a huge change in their lives. Their fervent hopes and dreams, their goals and aspirations have become more of a motivation to me more than ever.

Being a business mentor is not an easy job. It takes a lot of talking to be able to relay the right information to entrepreneurs and aspiring entrepreneurs alike.

But, what is talking without having any sense to it? It takes a great will to make people believe what you say. What they need is proof that what you teach them will be effective and useful for their business, for their lives.

Years of being in this industry have molded me too. The positivity that I always give during all my talks not only helped the people that I talked to, but also helped me become better.

Every time I talk in front of an audience—whether it is a group of 20, 50, or 100—as soon as I step out, I say my little prayer seeking God’s guidance that I may be able to become a good speaker who can be an inspiration to everyone.

Part of my talk is teaching entrepreneurs to look back at where they came from. While we must look forward to progress in whatever we do, we must also thank the people who helped us cross the bridge to success.

Remember that “no man is an island”, and it applies to every one of us. No business can succeed without the help of some people. And these people are your investors, stakeholders, mentors, employees, clients, and customers.

Ways on to give back

Most businesses give discounted prices on certain days, mostly during weekends, paydays or special occasions, this is their way of increasing sales.

But some businesses also offer their revenues to support a cause. For example, there are a lot of animal welfare advocates calling for support for abandoned or abused animals.

As a business owner, you can step up by offering them your assistance. You may pledge a certain amount to these groups by asking your loyal customers to buy certain products that you offer.

This is a win-win situation for business owners.

When I think of Christmas, there is only one thing that I have in mind – to spread love, joy, and cheer. I think that every entrepreneur should do his share of giving back to the community during this time of year.

There are homeless shelters, elderly homes, shelters for single-mothers/abandoned women, mental institutions, and prisons all over the country. Sadly, not all of them receive enough support.

During the Christmas season, it is best to give them something to look forward to by offering a day of merriment in the form of a Christmas party and by giving them gifts. Some of these people may have lost hope because they are no longer with their loved ones, but we can step up and do our share to make them feel that someone cares for them.

We see a lot of street children begging for food. Sometimes we fail to offer help because of fear. But Christmas is the time of year where love is overflowing. You may do your share by offering shelter during this season by fostering a child. It would make an orphan very happy to be with a family to share the Noche Buena feast. You may also donate used clothes and toys to hospices and orphanages so they may also feel the love and joy that Christmas brings.

We can reach out to those who need help and we should not always wait for the government to do this. We all need to help make this happen, after all, we belong to one nation.

It is a wonderful feeling to be able to share your blessings with people who need them the most. I feel extremely happy when I know that I have made other people happy in my own small way.

How do you give back at Christmas or any time of the year? It doesn’t have to be Christmas for you to start giving back. Be generous and share your blessings and I assure you that what you give, you will get back a hundredfold.

On Christmas Eve, light a candle and say a prayer of thanks to the Lord for all your blessings and for everyone who has touched your life. Pray for healing, ask for forgiveness, seek guidance so that you may always be enlightened, restore the faith of those who may have lost hope.

Wishing You All A Merry Christmas! Cheers!
