MANILA -- Majority Leader Rolando Andaya Jr said Wednesday the "signal" from Malacañang was to continue scrutinizing the proposed P3.76 trillion budget for 2019.
Andaya on Tuesday accused Budget Secretary Benjamin Diokno of being behind P75 billion in alleged "insertions" during a "question hour" at the House of Representatives. Diokno denied the allegation.
"Ang problema minamadali kami eh. Magigiba raw ang gobyerno kapag hindi naipasa ang budget," Andaya told DZMM.
(The problem is that we're being rushed. Some say the government will crumble if the budget doesn't get passed.)
"Pero ngayon, umatras na ang Palasyo at sinabi na hinahayaan na namin kayong balangkasin ang budget dahil may nadiskubre nga kayong anomalya, take your time ang senyales sa amin ngayon," he said.
(But now, the Palace backtracked and said we should be allowed to craft the budget because we discovered anomalies. Take your time, that's the signal to us now.)
Andaya said Diokno could be invited to future question hours in the House.
