MANILA -- A female in-law of the Po family is the chairperson of the "family council," tasked to ensure "harmony" in their canned tuna and pizza business.
As a consumer company, Century Pacific Food Inc is aware that 60 percent of busying decisions are made by women and makes sure that there is diversity at "all levels" of the company leadership, said chairman Chris Po.
The family council includes the Po brothers' wives, said Chris, who is married to actress and businesswoman Nanette Medved-Po.
"In my generation, it just so happened that we're all male. We're all married, our bosses are our wives," he said.
"Harmony" and inclusion as well as ensuring communication among members are the priorities of the Po family council, he said.
The Po family is also behind pizza restaurant chain Shakey's and real estate firm Arthaland. The family is worth $1.1 billion (P56.3 billion) according to Forbes Magazine.
A "significant number" of women are involved in sales and marketing at Century Pacific, which includes Century Tuna and 555 brands, said Po.
At least 2 women are in the 9-member board of the Po family's companies, he said.
Best known for portraying Darna on the big screen, Nanette Medved-Po was included in Forbes Magazine’s 2017 list of "Heroes of Philanthropy" for her work as founder, chair and president of HOPE, a social enterprise that sells bottled water to build classrooms around the country.
"I always wanted to be useful in some way and I think my previous career has given me a little bit of an audience to leverage to do something good. I’ve always thought that people shouldn’t be a waste of space," she told ANC's Headstart in an Aug. 5, 2017 interview.
