MANILA -- Budget Secretary Benjamin Diokno said Tuesday the Department of Health would not lay off thousands of workers even with the threat of a cut in its allocations for 2019.

Senate Minority Leader Franklin Drilon said Monday 15,000 health workers, doctors and nurses could lose their jobs if legislators don't approve funding for 2 DOH projects.

"There will be no layoff of health workers as P7.6 billion is allocated for them under the Miscellaneous Personnel Benefits Fund, which will be made available to them as contractual and permanent workers," Diokno said in a statement.
