CAPAS, Tarlac -- (UPDATE) The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas will move its coin and bills production facility to the new government center that is being built here to meet its production requirements, Governor Benjamin Diokno said Friday.
Once fully operational, the new facility will be able to produce 5 billion pieces of bills and coins compared to the 3 billion capacity of the current mint in Quezon City, Diokno said.
The BSP will sell the Quezon City property once the new mint is operational. Construction of the 29-hectare facility in New Clark City is expected to finish before the end of President Rodrigo Duterte's term in 2022, Diokno told reporters.
"It will be bid out for some private sector developers. That’s part of it, there is no point in having two mints plants, two printing complex," Diokno said.
The BSP and the BCDA, which oversees New Clark City, signed a memorandum of understanding for the transfer on Friday.
