MANILA - PLDT Inc on Thursday said mobile video consumption grew in the first 6 months of the year, while core income during the period was steady at P13.2 billion.
YouTube consumption among mobile subscribers grew 43 percent, while viewers of ABS-CBN's streaming service iWant grew 189 percent, PLDT said.
Smart, TNT and Sun acquired 8.7 Million new subscribers in the first half of 2019, pushing the total to over 66.8 million as of end-June 2019, PLDT said.
The company said its consolidated service revenues grew 6 percent to P76.7 billion in the first six months of the year, thanks to its consumer wireless, and home and enterprise businesses.
"Moving forward, we shall bolster this momentum by further enhancing customer experience across our various businesses through strategic organizational adjustments and the ongoing overhaul of our IT systems and customer service processes," said PLDT chairman and CEO Manuel Pangilinan.
He also announced the appointment of Alfredo Panlilio as president of Smart Communications. Panlilio also serves as executive vice president and chief revenue officer of PLDT.
PLDT said it would soon announce new agreements with common tower providers.
The company declared an interim regular dividend of P36 per share.
PLDT shares were up 6.8 percent, closing at P1,164 per share at the end of trading. - With a report from Bruce Rodriguez, ABS-CBN News
