MANILA -- Bank of the Philippine Islands is on track to hit its short to long-term targets despite a decline in profits in the first half of 2018, its president, Cezar Consing said Monday.

The country's third largest lender is looking to grow retail lending "significantly" while reorganizing its business units, he said.

"What we had to do, make the sacrifice and saying look we’ll take a step back a, we will fix from scratch but we will create a capacity to grow significantly and in the long term," Consing told ANC's Market Edge with Cathy Yang.

"We’re making an investment in time, we’re making an investment in money but I’m sure it’ll pay off," he said.
