MANILA - A new segment of the Skyway Stage 3 tollway was opened to the public on Monday cutting travel time from Buendia in Makati to Paco, Manila to just 6 minutes from an hour previously.

The Buendia-Plaza Dilao segment will be open to light vehicles, but the Public Works and Highways Department said there would be days when the tollway would be closed due to construction works.

Once finished, Skyway Stage 3 will connect the South and North Luzon Expressways, cutting travel time to 15 to minutes from up to 2 hours, said Public Works Secretary Mark Villar.

Skyway Stage 3 is 70 percent finished said Villar. The new expressway, which is operated by San Miguel Corp's toll road unit, will be toll-free for now.

The CAVITEX-C5 Southlink is also set to be opened to the public on Tuesday. The 2.2-kilometer expressway is expected to divert vehicles from the Sales Interchange near Villamor Airbase that often experiences heavy traffic.
