MANILA -- An inter-agency Cabinet body on mining said Tuesday it would hold a second audit of the industry's compliance with safety laws in the fourth week of July.
The inspections will cover 17 mining operations across the country, The first round included 26 mines, Finance Undersecretary Bayani Agabin said in a statement.
The Mining Industry Coordinating Council review will be finished by January, according to the statement issued by the Department of Finance.
"The review will cover the environmental, economic, social, legal and technical aspects of the mining operations," he said.
The MICC earlier deferred its recommendation on the lifting of a moratorium on the issuance of new mineral agreements.
