MANILA - Globe Telecom is eyeing to boost its digital technology offerings as introducing innovations has become easier after the coronavirus pandemic gave digitization a needed push, its president Ernest Cu said Thursday.
Globe is pushing for the use of GCash and telemedicine hotline KonsultaMD for consumers to enjoy financial and health services without leaving their homes, the company said.
The COVID-19 pandemic and resulting lockdowns have resulted in increased confidence in telehealth services, mobile wallets, and e-commerce as physical handling of cash poses risks of transmitting viruses, Globe said.
As the country moves to the new normal, Cu said more companies would likely engage in on-demand services, online grocery shopping and delivery, among others, Cu said in a statement.
"Opportunities in digital are happening and it’s something that we are also exploring. We will keep introducing new digital concepts to enhance people’s lives. I think the cycle of adoption and appreciation will be much shorter now given the pandemic. ,” Cu said.
"It has been a long process convincing people to adopt digitalization but I think this situation has made them realize that digital does work," he added.
Cu said the telco was "investing billions" to rollout infrastructure and ensure connectivity, an essential part of digitalization. It earmarked at least P60 billion for 2020, he said.
