MANILA -- Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi has approved the issuance of a Certificate of Energy Project of National Significance (CEPNS) to Mindoro Harvest Energy Corp. for the completion of the company's 9.7-megawatt bunker C power project in Mindoro.
The certificate was signed by Cusi last June 21 but was only shown to media on Sunday.
With the certificate from the Department of Energy, various government agencies can now expedite the license-permit process of the project, which would serve 8 municipalities in southern Mindoro.
Cristina Young, president of Power One Corp., the project proponent, thanked Cusi for his swift response in the release of the certificate after the project has been delayed for five months.
The Mindoro Harvest Energy Corp. applied for the CEPNS in January 2019 and should have received the certificate by February.
The company hopes to secure other permits by the end of July, start construction by August, and complete the project by January or February 2020.
The southern half of Oriental Mindoro, which consists of towns from Socorro to Pinamalayan, Roxas and up to Bulalacao, has been suffering from continuous power outages since a typhoon damaged the transmission lines in the area in December 2016.
