MANILA - Some 2,000 hectares in Marawi City can be used to plant hybrid rice, helping residents of the war-ravaged city rebuild their lives, a producer of the grain said Thursday.

A hectare of land can produce as many as 10 tons of rice using hybrid seeds, compared to 3 tons with common seeds, said SL Agritech SL Agritech corporate vice president Michelle Lim-Gankee.

"In Marawi there are already some irrigated farm lands and we are maximizing it with the use of our hybrid rice seeds," Lim-Gankee told ANC's Early Edition.

A 50-hectare demo farm was established in Marawi, which has employed 50 farmers, she said.
