MANILA -- The Department of Trade and Industry said Friday it was investigating complaints from consumers who failed to meet Korean Pop group Blackpink despite buying from online shopping platform Shopee.
The DTI sought Shopee's side Friday, a day after some fans were barred from meeting the girl group despite complying with a promo requirement to be among the top spenders on the website for a specified period, Trade Secretary Ramon Lopez said.
The investigation will determine whether Shopee or the band was at fault, after which the DTI will decide on possible refunds and penalties, Lopez told CNN Philippines.
"Basta may binayaran sila according to a certain promo at hindi na-deliver ang promo na 'yun, mag-file sila ng consumer complaint," Lopez said.
(If they paid according to certain promo and it failed to deliver, they can file a consumer complaint.)
"Maging mapanuri, check din natin kung legitimate o established institution ang nagbibigay ng promo. Huwag basta-basta magpaloko," he said.
(Be discerning, check if the institution involved in the promo is legitimate or established. Don't be fooled," he said.
"Simple" consumer complaints can be resolved in a week, Lopez said.
