MANILA - A minimum wage adjustment may be announced "within the month," the labor department said Tuesday, after President Rodrigo Duterte ordered a review of wages due to rising consumer prices.
The adjustment will vary depending on the region, Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III said. He refused to say whether or not it would amount to P750 per day as proposed by some lawmakers.
"Within the month, kasi very clear ang instruction ng Presidente (the President's instruction is very clear)," he said.
"It will vary but it’s also possible na mag-flat rate sila (that the wage boards will adopt a flat rate)," he said.
Left-wing lawmakers on Monday filed a bill seeking a P750 minimum wage across all regions.
