MANILA - Manila Electric Co (Meralco) said Tuesday power rates would go down in May due to lower generation and transmission costs.
The decrease of P0.5436 per kWh for a typical household will bring the overall rate to P10.0041 per kWh or a decrease of P109 in the monthly bill of those consuming 200 kwh per month.
The adjustment is due to the P0.4212 per kWh decrease in generation charge bringing it to P5.0523 perkHw from P5.4735 per kWh in April, Meralco said in a statement.
Transmission charges to residential customers also slightly decreased by P0.0096 per kWh. Meralco said the lower generation and transmission charges resulted to a decrease in taxes and other charges by P0.1128 per kWh.
The power generator said charges from the Wholesale Electricity Spot market (WESM) and the cost of power from Independent Power Producers (IPPs) went down despite higher demand for power in the Luzon Grid.
