MANILA - Telecommunication companies Smart and Sun apologized for an unannounced suspension of mobile services in specific Metro Manila areas on Sunday.
In separate advisories released on Monday, Smart and Sun said the partial suspension of mobile services was due to the instruction of the Philippine National Police (PNP).
The areas covered by the partial shutdown included parts of Manila, Makati and Quezon City, the telcos said.
"We were advised not to issue an advisory earlier or prior to the shutdown because of the sensitivity of the ongoing police operations," they added.
Globe Telecom earlier suspended mobile services in Quiapo and neighboring areas following the blasts in the area last weekend.
The suspension is in compliance with a directive from the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC), Globe explained.
Two people were killed, while at least 6 were injured in the explosions that rocked Quiapo last Saturday.
