MANILA - The Department of Trade and Industry said Thursday it would publish a list of hardware stores that sell substandard building materials.
The agency is aware that some stores have been selling steel and cement that did not pass DTI inspection or were not inspected at all, Undersecretary Ruth Castelo told DZMM.
To check the proliferation of substandard or fake building materials, Castelo said the DTI would identify establishments that sell them, as well as publish a list of reputable stores that sell quality materials.
Last year, a group of Philippine steel manufacturers warned that substandard steel was flooding the Philippine market from companies who bought obsolete furnaces from China.
Reuters also reported that some Indonesian and Philippine steelmakers were also concerned that substandard steel from these factories pose a major risk to countries that are prone to earthquakes and typhoons.
