MANILA – Manila Electric Co said Friday it would raise rates from April due to higher generation charge, or the cost of electricity from producers.
The country's largest power distributor said it would raise rates by P0.2250 per kilowatt-hour, following a P0.1773 per kWh increase in the generation charge.
The increase will bring April’s overall rate to P10.55 per kWh from P10.32 per kWh in the previous month, Meralco said. This well result to a P45 increase for households that consume 200 kWh per month.
The April adjustment reflects the remaining balance from March, when only P0.85 of the required P0.97 per kWh was implemented, Meralco said.
With demand expected to pick up as summer approaches, Meralco appealed to consumers to save power by setting their aircon at 25 degrees Celsius, use power boards for several appliances at once and maximize natural light during the day.
