MANILA - A Cabinet oversight committee tasked to revisit the environment department's decision to shut down or suspend 28 mines will meet on Friday to set guidelines for the review, its co-chairman said.

It will be the second meeting of the Mineral Industry Coordinating Council since Environment Secretary Gina Lopez released results of her audit of the entire mining industry for compliance with safety rules.

"We’re going to start the work to make sure that all the issuances regarding mining were done through due process," said Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez, who co-chairs the MICC with Lopez.

Lopez had said the MICC review would be "recommendatory," as she rejected mining companies' allegations that she did not observe due process.
