BreadTalk Philippines on Friday promised an "amplified pest control screening" after a rat was caught resting on top of a tray of bread in a now viral video.
In a Facebook post, BreadTalk owned up to the incident and admitted that a rat was in fact "spotted by a concerned customer in our Pampanga branch."
After the video went viral, the bakery chain said it immediately sent professionals to clean up and rid all their branches of pests.
"We then had professionals clean and sterilize the Pampanga branch and the rest of our branches, amplified our pest control screening to prevent pests from entering the stores, and retrained all of our staff to be extra vigilant about prevention," BreadTalk said in a statement.
The company reiterated that food safety remains their "most important priority" and vowed the same incident will not happen again.
"Food safety is our most important priority... We are very sorry this happened. We will do everything we can to ensure this does not happen again."
