MANILA -- China's Honor launched in the Philippines on Tuesday its latest mid-range phone with flagship looks, as it looked to physical retail to grow its market share here.

At P9,990, the Huawei sub-brand's Honor 10 Lite packs a near bezel-less 6.21-inch full HD screen, dual rear cameras and a color-shifting paint job.

Honor will soon introduce "experience stores" to make buying its products easier, said product director Rashid Su. The 5-year old company entered the Philippines as an online brand for millennials, selling smartphones on e-commerce platforms.

"Apart from the retailer strategy, we are also ready to invest in malls for the offline market, for we are confident that we are ready for 2019" said Su.

Honor will operate 100-square meter experience stores, while authorized resellers will operate 40-sqm counters, he said. No exact number of stores or planned opening dates were disclosed.

Honor recently launched "community-centered" campaigns and updated its logo and slogan, Su said.

"We would like to encourage our target consumer to challenge themselves through this platform with activities, sports, music, photography and gaming campaigns," he said.

The Honor 10 Lite also has a 24 megapixel front camera with artificial intelligence smarts. The rear cameras are 13 megapixel and 2 megapixel with a dedicated nigh shooting mode.

It runs on Android 9 Pie, powered by Huawei's in-house Kirin 710 chipset. Like most new China-made phones, a small dew-shaped cutout at the top of the screen houses the front-facing camera.

The 32 GB version will retail for P9,990 while the 64 GB unit will sell for P10,990. Both will have 3 GB of RAM regardless of storage capacity.

In line with its retail shift, the Honor 10 Lite will be available in select malls nationwide starting Jan. 26. But an exclusive sale will be available on Shopee on Jan. 25 with freebies.
