MANILA - A member of the government panel studying the viability of motorcycles for public transport said they will decide on Friday if they will continue the pilot testing for the service.

The technical working group for motorcycle taxis said on Monday morning that it was terminating the pilot run next week.

But after talking to senators on Monday afternoon, Transportation Assistant Secretary Albert Suansing said the panel was open to reconsidering their decision.

Suansing, who is a member of the panel, said they are also concerned for passengers who rely on motorcycle taxis amid heavy traffic in Metro Manila.

"Kinokonsidera namin yun. But then kami naman hihintayin namin yung hearing ng Kongreso sa Miyerkoles," Suansing said in an interview with DZMM Teleradyo.

(We are taking that into consideration. But then, for our part, we will wait for Congress' hearing on Wednesday.)

He said that after the hearing in the Lower House, the technical working group will decide by Friday if it will continue the pilot run.

Suansing, however, insisted that if they decide to not continue the pilot run, all motorcycle taxi services will be deemed illegal and their riders apprehended.
